The Hanover’s home business solutions include four a la carte coverage options designed to offer protection to homeowners who operate certain types of business out of their home, or engage in periodic short-term rentals of their home.
These coverages are offered as endorsements to an existing homeowners policy.
To protect your customers' home businesses, we offer four coverages to be endorsed to the home policy: business pursuits, permitted incidental occupancies, home-based business and home sharing.
Business pursuits
For employees or independent contractors, who don’t need property coverage. Customers who may need this coverage include:
- A business that has no desire/need for property coverage
- A customer that desires coverage for employment related liability exposure
Permitted incidental occupancies
For sole proprietors or independent contractors with inventory to protect, but few or no visitors. Customers who may need this coverage include:
- Those with income incidental to household (business income protection not needed/desired)
- A customer that needs to insure business property and liability exposures
- Business with occasional or no customer visits
Home-based business
For businesses located within a primary residence, with up to three employees, and regular visits from customers. Customers who may need this coverage include:
- A business that may employ up to three employees
- A business with income impactful to household (business income protection needed/desired)
- A customer that needs to insure business property and liability exposures
- Businesses with regular customer visits
Home sharing
For homeowners that use their home to generate income, and need protection against theft and property damage. Customers who may need this coverage include:
- People who occasionally rent their homes (up to 60 nights) through a home sharing network platform such as Airbnb® or Vrbo™

- Bodily injury liability
- Property damage liability
Permitted incidental occupancies
Coverage includes:
- Bodily injury liability
- Property damage liability
- Business property (up to Coverage C)
- Business in other structures (optional)
Home-based business
Coverage includes:
- Bodily injury liability
- Property damage liability
- Business property (up to Coverage C)
- Personal and advertising injury
- Accounts receivable
- Valuable papers and records
- Business income
- Business in other structures
Home sharing
Coverage includes:
- Bodily injury liability
- Property damage liability
- Landlord's furnishings
- Lost rental value
- Damage to renter's belongings
